The Hemmingford Collective Garden Project – December 2016

Hemmingford Collective Garden (December 2016)

Hemmingford’s Collective Garden Project started in 2014. The Partners involved are Hemmingford Elementary School, École StRomain, The Frontier Maison des Jeunes, the Hemmingford Environment Committee, and the Volunteer Action Service, under the guidance of Profil Santé Jardins-de-Napierville.

Several Hemmingford citizens and businesses have contributed greatly to the project to help make it a success: Les Serres Lucie and Alain Dauphinais, Les Serres Claude Beauvais, J.W. Goodfellow, Excavation Bill Kishka, Hemmingford’s Rona Hardware Store, Ferme aux Quatre Temps, La Maison des jeunes, Frontière, Agnès Boissard, Hemmingford Aerospatial, the Grainothèque, Hem-Lum, Mme Lise Desmarrais and Hemmingford’s Village and Township Municipalities. The materials and time these people devoted to the Hemmingford Collective Garden Project have been greatly appreciated.

This year a Drawing contest took place in both elementary schools to develop a logo to put on the new sign in front of the garden and to print on T-shirts for a fund-raising activitiy. We would like to congratulate the winners: Nathan Robert, Selena Grégoire, Taïna Bélangé, Livi Chapdelaine, Jacob Thompson, Novalie Gatien, Derek Déchène and Elliot Pharand.

The garden is situated at the corner of Champlain Street and the Industrial Boulevard, in the La Fameuse Park, (commemorating an apple variety developed by Mr. Robert Petch). It is open to the whole community. You can come by and sit and relax, pull a few weeds or help water. The schools and the Maison des Jeunes are always looking for volunteers to help with the summer care of the gardens, but also to share their gardening expertise with them!
