Tanya Humphreys – Centered Riding® Instructor

Tanya Humphreys Now Certified to Offer Centered Riding® Lessons

Horse enthusiasts of every level and discipline who want to take their expertise and enjoyment with horses to a whole new level should try a highly-acclaimed and internationally known Centered Riding lesson.

Centered Riding is an innovative way of expressing the classical principals of riding that focus on body awareness, centering and imagery. Centered Riding founder Sally Swift developed the principles of Centered Riding (Breathing, Soft Eyes, Centering, Building Blocks and later Grounding) as tools to help riders achieve harmony and balance with their horse by using their bodies more effectively.

Centered Riding practices are based on martial arts principles, including tai chi, and the Alexander Technique, which perfects a person’s riding posture and movement. Through increasing body awareness and achieving a more balanced and coordinated use of self, both horse and rider are better in tune with each other and perform their best.

The benefits of Centered Riding are far ranging and include:

  • Healthier relationship and better teamwork between rider and horse;
  • Enhances riding skills and expertise significantly;
  • Improves the rider’s overall comfort, confidence and communication with their horse;
  • Promotes suppleness and stability, making riding safer and more comfortable for both horse and rider.

Tanya Humphreys has worked with horses for over 30 years, and has taught riding and studied Centered Riding for 15 of those years. She completed many Centered Riding clinics and workshops in the US and Canada, culminating in recently achieving her Instructor Certification in the US. Tanya is the only Centered Riding instructor in Southern Quebec.

Tanya offers Centered Riding lessons on or off her farm in St-Bernard-de-Lacolle. The first lesson is complementary and free!
