From the Archives – August 2012
by Mary Ducharme (August 2012)
The move of the Archives to the Hemmingford Elementary School on Champlain Avenue has been accomplished. This was made possible through hard work by many volunteers in the community; donations of furnishings; funds made available from the Assemblee Nationale and the town and village municipalities; and the collaboration of the New Frontiers School Board. Recognition of all the community-spirited individuals and businesses supporting this effort will be featured in upcoming publicity.
Preparation of equipment and resources are still in progress and as a result the Archives will be closed this summer. However, our genealogical research specialist, Dan Mark, will be happy to respond to family history queries as always, and as soon as possible all Archives resources will again be available. Dan can be reached at dan@sharonmark.com or by phone at: 450-247- 2947. Another contact is Mary Ducharme at mducharme117@sympatico.ca or phone 450-247-3193.
On Friday September 7 there will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony and Grand Opening to celebrate our new location in Room 111 (formerly, the school library). The Archives Board and membership welcome all to view our new facility which is designed to be a community learning center focused on Hemmingford’s history. For this special occasion we will be featuring photographs from the Gaetan Fortin collection, a surprise display from the collections of Edmond Priest, and “mystery photos” taken by Betty and George MacKenzie of buildings in the community that you will have fun identifying. Watch for announcements for other specific details.
