Hemmingford Junior Council

 Hemmingford Junior Council (August 2020)

Congratulations to the Hemmingford Junior Council for the launch of the Municipality’s new Tourism Website.

Over the past five years the members of the Junior Council have met with and listened to the many local businesses of our municipality. During the round table discussions, the members of the Junior Council were sensitized to the needs of the local business community to help understand what was needed to better promote our region.

Over the past five years the members of the Junior Council have met with and listened to the many local businesses of our municipality. During the round table discussions, the members of the Junior Council were sensitized to the needs of the local business community to help understand what was needed to better promote our region.

All these meetings have led to the creation of the Municipalities new Tourism website “Destination Hemmingford” which was officially launched on June 25th (via our new virtual world of Zoom). The goal of this website is to attract visitors from all over to come and experience our little cache nestled along the Canadian and US border. The website offers visibility and information to the many businesses within our community, everything in only a click away.

The event was a great success with many members and supporters in attendance. The comments we received and continue to receive are very encouraging.

Mme Claire Isabelle, Deputy for Huntingdon, said “A tourism strategy and a website to promote the attractions of Hemmingford, managed and developed by a group of young people dedicated to their region, are not only very rare, but also very effective!”

Paul Viau, Mayor of the Hemmingford Township said, “It has been a remarkable experience.” He adds, noting he is also proud of “Hemmingford and its assets.”

For the members of the Junior Council this has been an incredibly positive experience, supported by their Mentors providing them the leadership and experience needed in this joint venture.

Justin Petch, project manager, said, “I am very satisfied with how it turned out” and added “this platform will ultimately be a great stepping stone from which we can build awareness of our beautiful region and it’s local businesses.”

Once the website was launched, Junior Council member Devon Watt was just as optimistic. “All of our collective efforts put into something tangible was nice to see and to get the positive feedback that we did is very encouraging for our group and our area.”

We invite everyone to visit the site at: destinationhemmingford.com. Once you have logged on you will be able to tour the user-friendly site to : discover the land, discovery the beauty of our area.

You will also see the newly created Destination Hemmingford logo. Hemmingford has long been known for it apple production and in recent years our scenery has changed/evolved to include many fine award-winning wineries/cideries in our area, both of these are depicted by the apple and grapes within the apple. The depiction of the name in two colours (green and black) as well as the line through the O, depicts the story of the region with multiple identities and in their coming together to create a special and unique destination known as Hemmingford.

We welcome your comments and questions, so please do not hesitate to share your thoughts with us.
