Important notice for owners of wooded areas in the Township of Hemmingford

(October 2014)

At its meeting on 6 October 2014, the Township Council adopted a new law concerning the cutting of wood on its territory. It is recommended that you obtain a copy of this law from the Township office before undertaking forestry work.

In addition, the COOP des Frontières is joining in a regional agroforestry project with a view to offering its agroforestry information services, the purchase of logs, their transformation and commercialization. The cooperative could also develop integrated approaches, depending on the willingness of members, for other forest products such as non-woody forest products or for carbon credits, for example. If you are not already registered with MAPAQ, a life membership costs only $50.00 which is reimbursable if you decide to withdraw from the COOP. As a member the producer buys not only a service but also adopts a business model and a philosophy.

This is a splendid opportunity for anyone who wishes to make something of their woodlot but who is unsure exactly how to get started. If the project interests you, telephone François Payette at 450-427-2003, extension 2242 or contact him by email at françois.payette@usherbrooke.ca before the end of November 2014. Each of us alone can accomplish something, but together we would have access to many more services.
