Local economy and organizations
Several non-profit organizations exist in the community of Hemmingford (December 2015)
Meals on Wheels is an organization of the community of Hemmingford. It was an initiative of St-Andrews United Church to better serve the senior community with nutritious meals. The goal is to offer healthy, well balanced homemade meals delivered to your door.
In April of 2012 we held an information meeting to explain the project. With the many volunteers who willingly signed up that day we were able to begin the delivery of meals the following week.
At the present time, the meals cost $7.00 each and consist of soup, main course and dessert. Choosing your meals is easy: each person receiving meals is contacted once a week on Thursdays to provide their choices for the following week. A minimum of 3 meals must be ordered per week. The menu includes 5 choices of each (soup, main dish and desert) per week and meals are prepared in a certified MAPAQ (Government Certified) kitchen.
On Thursday mornings, between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., the meals are delivered to the door of seniors by the volunteers of Meals on Wheels. Every one is greeted with a smile and a warm “Hello”.
We look forward to serving more people of the community. If you are interested in receiving Meals On Wheels, you simply have to contact one of the three organizers. They will schedule an appointment to meet with you to go over the details and to complete the CSSS form identifying your medical needs, such as diabetes, any food allergies and/or personal food preferences.

It’s easy to forget how thin and fragile each thread of life is, but when woven into a tapestry of love and caring, the whole is strong and beautiful.
