Your Health Overview – April 2016
To change or not to change: That is the question! by Dr. Annick Hollender (April 2016)
This question came to me as I was reflecting on the state of affairs in our daily life and the degree of satisfaction people enjoy in their existence. Humans, in general, do not take well to change. They prefer the status quo, even if what is known is sometimes painful. But Life is nothing but change, and that’s the rub! … Certainly these days. Have you noticed?
So what do we do? Hang on? Rebel? Ignore the inner pressure that disturbs our well-being? Keep things as they are at all costs just to avoid calling into question all that we take for granted?
To resist is futile. What you resist persists! The river flows, and will continue to flow…that is its nature. Granted, we can erect dams, which is one of Quebec’s talents! But this solution has its consequences, as we well know. So, we must make choices – stagnation, or transformation? Involution, or evolution?
If we compare a community to the human body, each organ has its own function, somewhat like an instrument in an orchestra, participating masterfully (we hope) in a performance directed by the conductor. Imagine a moment when the violin decides to do its own thing. Or the heart wants to take a break, or the lungs opt for a slower rhythm. The health of the organism wouldn’t last long!
The purpose of this analogy is to incite us to consider the health of our community and to provoke an individual and collective reflection on what could breathe new life into our community, giving every one of us a sense of belonging, inspiring participation in the creation of a dynamic, stimulating, nurturing and attractive environment.
We love our community. We live in harmony in two languages; thus, the possibilities are multiplied.
Seven people recently got together, motivated by the energy of change that we are all feeling. We all live in Hemmingford and share a common vision that we would love to share with you: to bring together the strengths and driving forces of our community, and step forward into a collective blossoming. We are called “EnsembleHemmingfordTogether”.
Be on the lookout! You will have some news soon.
In the meantime… Happy Spring to all of you!
