Saveurs de Hemmingford et des environs
by Catherine Stratford December 2025
A first snow on November 9th did not discourage the spirits of the participants at InfoHemmingford’s vey first fund-raising event “Saveurs de Hemmingford et des environs” (Flavours from Hemmingford and the Surrounding Area). They enjoyed a great variety of local food products on hand and local wine and cider-tastings.
Harrison Kyle, a Volunteer Fireman, directed traffic with a team of five young volunteers. The parking lot was full all afternoon.
People enjoyed tasting prize-winning local ciders and wines from Vergers Petch Orchards, La Cidrerie du Minot, Les Vergers écologiques Philion, Le Vignoble le Chat Botté, Le Vignoble Hemmingford Winery and Le Vignoble le Marathonien. This joint tasting-experience was appreciated by both vendors and visitors.
Fresh local produce was available such as Les fermes Enderle Farms’ new apple variety, the Crimson Crisp, garlic from Pop-Ail. Ferme Caravias Farm was giving away squash, and Pumpkins were offered by Vergers Pelletier Orchards. Champignons Tong Huang from James Fisher Rd had a good display of mushrooms they grow showing how they grow. Dried mushrooms, mushroom sauce, honey, dried vegetables for broth and other creations were sold by Ferme Gus et Chorophylle. There were baked goods available and many sweet treats from la Maison du Délice. Many other transformed food items were on sale, bread and mustards from Cunningham et Co., Cameline oils and honey from Olimega-Signé Caméline, tasty cheeses from La Fromagerie du Métayer, pickled vegetables and fruit syrups made by Le Marinier, and many Maple products from l’Hermine, just to name a few. Products from local herbalist, Carole Beaulieu, were available too.
Visitors also appreciated snacks from the free food table: charcuterie from Boucherie Viau, three cheeses from Fromagerie Fritz Kaiser, pizza from the Country Ranch Club, Sweet Tango apples from Verger Stevenson Orchards and sandwiches, vegetables and dips from Marché Tradition’s Catering Service. Many Thanks for these generous donations!
The first sales of a new Hemmingford T-shirt took place, organised by Rosemary MacDonald and Devon Watt as an ongoing part of the InfoHemmingford Fundraising Campaign. (See the article in this issue!)
Live music was provided freely by Bob Davis and Serge Pagé, Jeff Turner and Stu Wershof from Montreal creating a cosy atmosphere all afternoon.
Pauline Bergeron from Lacolle won the 50/50 Draw.
Many thanks to all our wonderful local producers and Karine Pelletier from Pelletier Orchards, who created the poster for the event. Thanks to all those who promoted the event including Sarah Rennie of the Gleaner and Marc-André Couillard of the Coup d’Oeil, who wrote articles and Jill Walker and Sonali Karnick of CBC radio’s “All in a Weekend”, who interviewed the organizers. Huge thanks also to the many volunteers who helped make this event a success and to those who came to help support Info-Hemmingford!
